Day 1 – Zagreb, the capital of Croatia

Arrival to Zagreb and accommodation in a hotel.

Day 2 – Hiking and walking around National Park Plitvice

Head out into the wild with a van drive southwest towards NP Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s premier National Park. The day is dedicated to hiking in and around the Park making breathtaking pictures. Its exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. A picnic lunch along the trail. Later in the afternoon return to Korana village in time to enjoy a swim in the clear river.

Day 3 – Trekking National Park North Velebit

This walking adventure is intended for those who want to experience a different type of walking, since it includes the most famous, and one of the most beautiful trekking paths – the Premužić path. Velebit is known for its unusual diversity of plant and animal life, wealth of forests, canyons, cliffs and caves that delight visitors. Besides all the afore-mentioned, Velebit is also home to one of the most famous Croatian endemic species, Velebitska degenija. Due to its magnificence, it’s considered as a national Croatian symbol and as such is mentioned in numerous songs, stories and legends. It is characterized by an elongated shape with steep sides. On the way there are several points that open up a view towards the Adriatic archipelago, the path is drawn so that there aren’t any big climbs so it is pleasant for walking, passing through dense forest of old pine, fir and beech. The day finishes up with a drive towards the next destination, Novigrad, a little fisherman’s village situated right on the sea front. Dinner on the hotel terrace with a stunning view of the Velebit mountain range.

Day 4 – Hiking in National Park Paklenica and visit Zadar

In the morning the small expedition leads into National Park Paklenica, the most famous hiking and rock climbing NP in Croatia. It covers the area of torrent flows of Velika and Mala Paklenica, and their distinctive canyons carved vertically into the south slopes of Velebit and the broader surrounding area. The relatively small area has an abundance of exceptional diversity of geomorphologic phenomena and forms, diverse flora and fauna, attractive landscapes and intact nature. Having adapted to the geographic and climatic environment, the residents mostly engaged in nomad stock herding, which is confirmed by mountain shepherd residences. The fact that many people stayed in mountain residences in summertime is reflected in the ruins of numerous sacral buildings: churches, chapels, altars, holy hills and measures. The name Paklenica probably derives from black pine sap called “paklina”, which the locals used in traditional medicine, for wound treatment, for light and for coating of wooden boats. Hiking is the only way to really get to know Paklenica. Afterwards a visit to Zadar, beautiful old town on the Adriatic coast. In the past several years Zadar has become an outdoor exhibition, attracting people from all demographic structures. It is really worth seeing and experiencing it.

Day 5 – Boat ride to National Park Kornati Islands

In the central part of Croatian Adriatic Sea there is an amazing archipelago of islands named Kornati Islands. Beauty and singularity of the archipelago moved authorities in 1980 to proclaim a bigger part of that area a National Park. Since then certain modifications of its borders were made, so that nowadays NP Kornati occupy the area of about 220 km2 (54.000 acres). There are 89 islands, islets and reefs within the area of National Park Kornati Islands (238 km of the coastline) what make it the most indented group of islands in the Mediterranean. It’s values of landscapes, the “crowns” (cliffs) on the islands facing the open sea, and interesting relief structures, make it very unique. The Kornati submarine area, whose bio diversity is considered to be the richest in the Adriatic Sea, and also the magnificent geomorphology of the sea bed, attracts divers from all over Europe to come and enjoy in unforgettable submarine. In the evening arrival to Skradin town, on the very entrance to the NP Krka River. The small picturesque town, rich in history, has a couple of family-run hotels, restaurants, pubs and wineries, a beach and marina – all in friendly atmosphere.

Day 6 – Walking and exploring National Park Krka River, visit Šibenik

Spending the day visiting Krka River National Park. A short boat ride from Skradin to the 44-meters high Skradinski Buk waterfall and continuing by motor boat to the island Visovac to visit the Franciscan (Catholic) monastery. After the walk around the Roški waterfall, with its numerous mills, streams and cascades there will be time for lunch and a swim. Admiring the Park’s abundant wildlife, particularly birds – more than 200 different species. Upon the return a drive to Šibenik town for another inspirational sightseeing. An ancient town with lively Mediterranean spirit and its breathtaking cathedral make it an unavoidable destination.

Day 7 – Trekking Mosor, visit Split

Mosor is a mountain range located near town Split on the Adriatic coast. It stretches from the pass of Klis in the northwest to the Cetina River in the southeast. The highest peak is Veliki Kabal (1339m), and one of the most visited peaks is Vickov stup (1325 m). Starting the ascent from Gornje Sitno, eeeing the remains of old pastoral villages all around, as well as the pools for watering livestock, and occasionally the wind brings along the sounds of bells from a distant bulls herd while enjoying the panoramic view. After this beautiful expedition descending to visit the breathtaking old Mediterranean town of Split.

Hiking: 4-5 hours; Terrain: moderate, well-marked paths

Day 8 – Departure day

Depart Split/Trogir for the airport and flight home.
