Old Cellars of Ilok (Stari ilocki podrumi) are situated in the medieval town centre. They were built by the Princess Odescalchi in the 16 and 17 century. Today they are owned by the company Ilocki podrumi d.d. which belongs to the very top of the Croatian and European wine map.
The grape varieties you can taste and buy in Ilok are: Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Rein Riesling, Silvanac, Traminac of the white wine varieties, and Pinot Noir, Frankovka and Cabernet Sauvignon of the red wine varieties. Ilok is especially famous for its traminac and silvanac, which were served at the English Court at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
In the heart of Knezevi Vinogradi, 5 centuries ago, Belje wine cellar was dug into the hillside. It is a fantastic edifice hiding behind its heavy door and two levels of long corridors filled with casks made of the finest Slavonian oak. Apart from premium white wines, Podrumi Belje also produces premium red wines. They triumphed in Decanter World Wine Awards in London with its premium wine Merlot 2008, which first won the gold medal and then was elected among the gold-winning wines and won a regional trophy.
Day 1 – Zagreb
Arrival at the Zagreb Airport (British Airways/Croatia Airlines) and transfer to your hotel. Meeting with an English speaking guide, informal city tour with a short break in a cosy Wine Shop. Croatian wine and olive oil tasting with an English speaking sommelier. Dinner in one of the recommended restaurants in the city center to experience Zagreb by night. Overnight.
Day 2 – Zagreb – Ilok
Breakfast at the hotel and afterwards departure for Ilok. Arrival at Ilok in the afternoon and , with a glass of sparkling wine Princeps, a tour of the estate and lunch. Afterwards a trip down the Ilok wine road and through the town of Ilok in a tourist train “Traminac express”. Accommodation at the TN Old Cellar 3*(Stari podrum) and some free time for visiting the city museum or having a stroll through the city center. The tour continues with a visit to the wine cellars, accompanied by a professional enologist and tasting of 3 premium wines. Dinner with optional live local music entertainment („tamburasi“) at the Old Cellar restaurant. Overnight.
Day 3 – Ilok- Belje – Zagreb
Breakfast and free time for morning coffee. Afterwards, a drive to Belje and the beginnig of the wine tour at the Vidikovac vineyard on Banovo Hill, which is an ideal place for relaxing and enjoying the view of vineyards and Croatian Podunavlje, surrounded by millions of grape vines. Continuing with the tour of Belje Cellar and tasting of 3 premium wines. Lunch at the Kormoran restaurant situated in National Park Kopački rit. Return to Zagreb in the late afternoon. Overnight.
Day 4 – Zagreb
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the Zagreb Airport, depending on your time of departure.
